BIOGRAPHY

Walter Sullivan is a Preti Flaherty attorney who also serves as a key member of Preti Minahan Strategies, which specializes in lobbying, business development consulting, and public relations.

Walter's work with Preti Minahan is a natural fit because of his extensive knowledge of law, government and politics. His family has been active in public affairs in the City of Cambridge, MA, for three generations, and the Sullivans are widely known and admired across the political spectrum in the Commonwealth.

Walter supports clients of Preti Minahan Strategies by combining his skills as a lawyer with his extensive experience as a regulator for multiple state agencies. His work spans multiple industries, including high tech, education, construction and hospitality.

Before joining Preti Minahan Strategies, Walter served as Chairman of the Massachusetts State Racing Commission, where he worked with the Administration and Legislature on gaming issues. Prior to this role, he served as the Commissioner and Chair of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, where he oversaw investigations and prosecutions of alleged violations of state and federal anti-discrimination laws in the areas of employment, housing and public accommodations.

Walter also served as Chairman/Commissioner of the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission, where he oversaw the investigations of applicants seeking on-premise, off-premise, wholesaler, supplier and manufacturer alcoholic beverages licenses and investigations ensuring compliance with the Alcoholic Beverages Control Act and violations of the Act.

Walter brings extensive experience conducting adjudicatory and regulatory hearings on behalf of state agencies to Preti Minahan Strategies and is instrumental in strengthening and expanding the firm's various circles of influence.

In addition to his work with Preti Minahan Strategies, Walter's law practice with Preti Flaherty is focused on Labor and Employment and Legislative, Regulatory and Government Services. He advises employers on compliance with federal and state employment laws and also advocates for clients before the Massachusetts Legislature, the Executive Branch and other state and federal agencies, as well as local and county governments, concentrating on racing and gaming laws, anti-discrimination laws and alcoholic beverages laws.
